devorah major is a former San Francisco poet laureate and is a novelist and an essayist. She has published prize-winning works of fiction and poetry. Among her books is Where River Meets Ocean.
Opal Palmer Adisa is a literary critic, poet, prose writer, storyteller, artist, and professor. Her novel, It Begins with Tears (1977), gives an intimate look at Caribbean culture. She holds a PhD. in Ethnic Studies and has taught at Stanford, University of California Berkeley and San Francisco State University.
